Red Devil defeated, Reds prevail..

August 19, 2009 round-up..

Burnley celebrated a night they will never forget as veteran duo Robbie Blake and Brian Jensen emerged the heroes in a shock 1-0 victory over Manchester United. Blake strike a wonderful volley in the 18th minute and Jensen saved a penalty taken by Carrick just before half-time. In the second half Jensen kept his cool as United dominated but couldn't find a way through.

Elsewhere at Anfield, Liverpool put the disappointment of their opening day defeat at Tottenham firmly behind them with a convincing 4-0 victory over Stoke. This time around there was no mistake. Steven Gerrard crafted two of the goals and new boy Glen Johnson had an outstanding game surging down the right at will. Goals scored by Torres (4), Johnson (45), KuytNgog (90). With Torres start scoring, I think Liverpool always had an upper hand.

At Hull Defoe sored the first hattrick of the season for a superb 5-1 victory for Spurs. Tottenham now have a 100% record after two games for only the second time in 14 years, while Hull have not won in the Premier League since March, a run stretching back 12 games. Harry Redknapp
must be the man for Spurs. Other goals scored by Palacios and Keane, while Hull get it from Stephen Hunt.

At St Andrews, James McFadden scored an injury-time penalty to earn Birmingham a dramatic 1-0 victory over Portsmouth.

With all of these result this year will be exciting and there will be more than four teams vying for the champions League spot. It could be the most open season.....
